The school history

The PIO XII Educational Center was created in 1954 by the company ECOPETROL PEKIN HOUSE, only and exclusively for the children of the company's workers; the land for its construction was donated by Mr. Julian Patron on the main street of this town, this man was the largest landowner in the region and at the same time also donated some plots to his workers, constituting what is now the Guayabal district.

The PIO XII Educational Center was officially created on February 25, 1959 and was named PESTALOZZI RURAL SCHOOL for ten years. His first teacher was Mrs. Ana Cecilia Realpe, with Chocoan origin.

Later, in 1965 it receives the name of co-instruction PIO XII, in honor of the priest who visited the region and who influenced to give this name in honor of the Pope of that time PIO XII, who was born in Rome in the year 1876 and chosen in the year 1939; he was one of the best pope that the church has had, since he defended the international institutions with energy, for which he was called the pope of peace.

The first teachers were appointed by the military base of Marine Infantry Nr. 2, whose names were: Ovid Baena and Roger Rebellon. In 1966, the Government of Bolivar appointed the teacher Antonio Iriarte who was subsequently transferred and in replacement of him, the teachers named were Gladys Hernández and Mireya Gómez Bassa, the last one as Director. As time went by, the community continued to fight to appoint other teachers as school grew. Professor Mireya Gómez is transferred and, in her place, the Director of the Center, Juan Francisco Gutiérrez was appointed. Currently the Pio XII educational center counts with Ricardo Hoyos as Principal.

Mission

To contribute to the ethnic and permanent integral formation of the students of the Pio XII Educative Center of Guayabal, focused on the autonomy of their learning based on a Holistic pedagogical model adopted by the center in which the student is no longer a passive receiver of information, but an active protagonist of their own learning process, participating every moment in the formulation of questions, and the clarification of doubts and concerns.

Vision

The Pio XII Educational Center of Guayabal is projected in the future as an Educational Institution that will be leader in quality, efficiency and educational coverage of its students, recognized municipal, departmental and national wide for its innovative autonomy, educational technology and community outreach.


Objectives

General objective

*    Provide a comprehensive education, according to the needs and interests of students, through the implementation of educational and technological advances, through the use of pedagogical and didactic techniques and tools in order to promote quality education and towards excellence without forgetting the ethnic and religious principles and values that each individual possesses.

Specific objectives

• To improve institutional educational quality.
• To expand educational coverage at preschool and elementary school levels and project it towards secondary school.
• To strengthen and institutionalize educational programs and projects to improve recreational, cultural, sports, environmental, social welfare and projection services from the educational center to the community.
• Develop ethnic educational projects that promote the development of aptitude and attitudes of the different cultures that are part of the educational community of the center.
• Improving, strengthening and rationalizing institutional educational management in the process of administrative decentralization of education.
• Strengthen the functionality of the Directive Council and the various committees that conform the school government.

Interesting facts

There are many cultural manifestations of the Guayabal landers, among which can be highlighted: games of chances, bullfights, champeta dances; accordion, black and white festivals, traditional games and beach activities among others.
The institution has won prizes all through the Sucre Department because of its initiatives, creativity and leadership at technological processes.
